City Year is proud to partner with the Public Education & Business Coalition (PEBC) to present PEBC’s Teacher Residency: City Year Pathway. This uniquely designed partnership will honor and build off of the skills and knowledge corps members have gained through their year of service. City Year strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected.

Background:

The Public Education & Business Coalition’s teacher residency is Colorado’s largest alternative teacher licensure pathway. Based on a medical residency, individuals are paired with a mentor teacher and field coach to support the application of theory from licensure coursework to practice with students. With a strong focus on supporting culturally and linguistically diverse learners, residents are well prepared to meet the needs of Colorado students upon completion of the residency.

PEBC’s Teacher Residency: City Year Pathway offers three exciting options for City Year alumni to earn their Colorado Teacher’s License:

  • Traditional Residency:

    • Earn an Early Childhood Education, Elementary or Secondary license in one of 30 partner districts across the state. Residents have placement options in a private, public or public charter schools in urban, suburban or rural Colorado.

    • Earn a secondary teacher’s license at Compass Academy, an innovation school designed by City Year. This placement will include additional training components uniquely designed to build off the corps member experience and City Year’s whole school, whole child model.

  • Teacher-of-Record:

    • Apply, interview and be hired as a teacher-of-record in one of Colorado’s rural regions. Residents receive on-the-job mentorship and coaching while earning a salary and completing licensure coursework.

The City Year experience is a strong indicator of future success in PEBC’s Teacher Residency: City Year Pathway and serving a year with City Year strengthens an applicant's application and chances for being selected as a resident.
