Career Partnership with Match Education

City Year is proud to partner with with Match Education so that our alumni can continue to make a difference in classrooms and in the lives of students. This partnership reflects the shared visions and values of both organizations, and their belief that young people can keep students on track to graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. City Year strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected for the Match Corps or Match Teacher Residency.

Background

Match Education  is a non-profit organization working to close the achievement gap through various innovations, including full-time professional tutoring and teacher training. We are widely recognized for success in preparing low-income students for success in four-year colleges.

Match Corps Fellowship

At our charter schools in Boston, we provide high-dosage in-school tutoring to each of our students through the Match Corps, an 11-month service fellowship for individuals interested in committing a year of service to inner-city schools. This high-impact tutoring model has been described as a “transforming opportunity” for students by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Corps members are assigned a personal caseload of 6 to 10 students at the beginning of the year. Match Corps members work with their students in small-group or individual tutorials over the course of each day, providing close academic support, mainly in math and English Language Arts, and supporting habits that foster the academic success of their tutees. Match Corps alumni go on to some of the best law, med and grad schools, to teach, or to other careers in or outside of education.

Match Teacher Residency

For those who are passionate about working in high achieving urban public charter schools, Match Teacher Residency is a perfect fit. Through the Match Teacher Residency and our Sposato Graduate School of Education, we prepare rookie teachers with the tools to be effective in high-poverty urban schools. This 2-year program is unique because it not only offers graduate courses like traditional graduate schools, but trains teachers on how to manage a classroom, develop curriculum, and build strong relationships with students and families. Graduates are highly sought after by charter and turnaround schools across the US and have a 100% job placement rate.
